Naga's biggest festival is new year festival of January 15th, called Kaing Bi and organized by Naga festival committee who choose each year's festival location and details under the control of central government. All Naga tribes send a few delegations to this occasion, thus it is the perfect opportunity to see variety of different Naga people at one place.

In the Northwest frontier of Myanmar, there stands a high mountain called Saramari or New Mauk Mountain of 3826 meters high along the Patkoi Mountain Range. The people who live at the foot of Mt. Saramari are Nagas. They are one of the races of Myanmar and it has 64 different clans. The most famous nine are GONWAN, HYMMYE, KAHYAUNG, LAUTAW, LINENONG, MAKURI, MAKYAN, MARNAUT and TANGUN.

Now, we have only three clans MAKURI, TANGUN and PARA Nagas left living in the Northwest Highlands of Myanmar in the Sagaing Division. Some few extinct and most spread out from Myanmar into India as the mountains are in chain connection. On our Myanmar land so unspoiled and mountainous that present three clans altogether have over one hundred and thirty thousand Nagas left.

Only a few Nagas are farmers. Most are by-birth and calling hunters, as they are stout and sturdy. They take pride in hunting is clear for their head –gears of rattan-hats are fully decorated with the tusks, claws, furs and the feather of the prey they had killed.

That is why, our State is promoting the land of Nagas by performing Culture and Eco- tourism, making Naga New Year Festival and mountaineering expedition on Saramari, is now the best taste and exclusive experience for the tourists visiting Myanmar. Turn by turn, Naga New Year Festivals perform at prominent places such as Hkamti, Lahe, Nanyun and Leshi. Among them, weak-infraspructured places as Hkamti and Nanyun are not so frequent as Lahe and Leshi which is more convenient a place of the Base for the mountaineers who climb Saramari.
